You will notice that most of these sites are conceptual in nature. They are interested in the new potential for the web through manipulation of the ideas imbedded in the web and its code. They are not interested in retail aesthetics or traditional design. Remember these are the days before flash or any GUI web-based application. Anything that moves/changes was done in code by hand.
