Creating a Storyboard:

A storyboard is a way to visualize the progression of a time-based work such as film, video, animation, or interactive media.

•We are doing the project to understand the construction of a film.

1: Find A film you like and a particular 3 min section that you would like to analyze.

2: Create a thumbnail image sketch each time the film is cut or there is significant change in a scene. A thumbnail is either a small sketch or you can print out the film still if you know how. This could be done on paper or digitally depending on your preference and skills.

Below each thumbnail describe these things if they haven't changed since the last cut, there is no need to repeat them:

a: The type of shot it is as listed here: http://www.mediacollege.com/video/shots/

b: Cameral Movement if any. You can use arrows in your thumbnail for this and simple terms in description like Panning, Tilting, dolly shot, etc. Terms are listed http://www.mediacollege.com/video/shots/movement.html

c: Lighting. how would you describe the lighting? soft, hard, where is it coming from.? behind the camera, from the left, etc

d: Sound. listen and describe the ambient sounds, voiceover, and soundtrack

e: Effects: any you notice. color tints, special effects

f: Notes: any thing else that is relevant to understanding the progression of the film

Between each thumbnail describe the transition between cuts in the film. This might be a jump cut or dissolve.

Remember to number your pages as 3 minutes of film will leave you with several pages of thumbnails.
