Video lab rules

1. Do NOT save any files on these computers without permission from the instructor. They will very likely be deleted. USE an external firewire drive at all times as your scratch disk and to save your files.

2. Do NOT move equipment around the lab. If for some reason you must move something, please check with the instructor or lab tech, first if possible. If you must move something after-hours, RETURN it to its original position and RE-CONNECT it so it is ready for the next user. If you do not know how to re-connect the equipment, don’t move it in the first place. This is especially true of the DV decks. Some stations share a deck—just switch the firewire cable when moving between computers, don’t move another deck to your station.

3. Do NOT take any equipment out of the lab. Some equipment is available for checkout. See the instructor or lab tech to check something out.

4. All checked-out equipment is to be returned the following class period unless special arrangements are made. If you check something out Tuesday, return it on Thursday. If you check out on Thursday, return the following Tuesday.

5. Only people who are registered for a class or have special permission are allowed in the lab.

6. Do NOT break anything. However, accidents happen and if you do break something or find something already broken or not functioning, please let the instructor or lab tech know immediately. Leave a note if they are not here.

7. Do keep the lab as clean and orderly as possible. Throw away any trash, push in chairs, and generally straighten up the workstation before you leave.

8. TURN OFF all DV decks before you leave. They heat up and will burn out earlier if you leave them on.

9. SHUT DOWN computers before you leave.

10. If you are the last person to leave, please check that all the decks and computers have been properly shut down, turn off the lights and make sure the door is locked.

IF you do not follow these rules, some or all lab priviledges, including key access, will be revoked.
